Quenisha was so excited about moving into her first home. Having decorated most of the rooms already, the entryway remained a mystery. So she decided to ask for a little help from BLB.

Quenisha is a Human Resources professional in Charlotte, North Carolina. After living in her new townhouse for about a year, she decided it was time to take on the first room in the house. When she contacted me, she shared how she was struggling with figuring out what to do with the space and that she trusted my creativity to come up with a solution.

Here’s a BEFORE look at the space:

Open to any and all ideas, Quenisha and I decided to turn the entry space into what I like to call a “soft office:” the art of positioning a desk in a common space with minimal décor allowing little distraction and easy transition. I did something similarly with Project Bold & Gold last year in Atlanta and it worked very well for another client’s home. One of the benefits of taking this approach is that you keep costs low, don’t crowd the space and you lessen the chances of buyer’s remorse. The room was pretty much a blank canvas. After getting a few questions answered through email and my questionnaire, I put a few ideas together for Quenisha to consider:

Quenisha liked the blue and grey color scheme the most, so we began ordering items online in anticipation of a full shopping and install day Fourth of July weekend. She ordered the desk from Target, button-tufted wingback chair from Wayfair and Turkish rug from Rugs USA. When I arrived in Charlotte, we quickly assessed the space. We kept the existing curtain rod, corner bookshelf and floral wall canvas in the space, moved the upholstered bench near the window, then centrally positioned the rug, desk and chair. Quenisha and I hit the ground running at nearby Home Goods, At Home and a few other local stores. One of our best finds was a light grey console table that would contribute to the styled vignette on the opposite of the desk. We also found throw pillows for the bench, framed florals for the stairs, and a beautiful beaded wall mirror, one of the most practical décor adds to can have in an entryway. We returned to her townhome to review our purchases and begin putting it all in place.

After a full day of shopping and decorating, all of our hard work paid off. Just one month after beginning the project digitally, we’d knocked it out in ONE DAY.

I’m so grateful to have met Quenisha. She has an amazing spirit, was an excellent shopping partner and made the process so easy. Also - small world - we grew up in the same small town in South Carolina! No kidding! Somehow the stars aligned and the universe allowed us to not only cross paths, but also create a masterpiece together!
