Pillow Talk

There’s no right or wrong way to do decorative pillows! The size, type, quantity and arrangement are all really based on personal preference. Here are some of my best practices when it comes to picking pillows for your home:

COVERS & INSERTS

If purchasing separately, try to buy inserts that are one size up from your pillow cover. So if the cover is 22”, go with a 24” insert. Buying the same size is perfectly okay, but taking this alternative approach will give you the full and plump look you’re likely looking for.

MIX & MATCH

Reject the need to be so matchy-matchy. Only find one leopard print velvet pillow in HomeGoods that you love for your sofa? No problem! Mix it in with a similarly-sized pair of another pattern or texture. Odd quantities are totally fine and don’t be afraid to switch them up or swap them out occasionally to keep things interesting.

FLOP & CHOP

A healthy pillow is one that stays in motion! Shake, fluff and chop your pillows often to keep the contents moving and prevent matting. Like everything else in your home, pillows can collect dust so keep that vacuum wand and lint roller handy to ensure they last long, remain clean and stay in good shape.

Where do I buy decorative pillows? Here are a few of my BLB faves:

Online retailers (most of these are also Black + female owned 💁🏾‍♀️):

Hope this helps! Happy pillow hunting!

Be Blessed,
